COURSE SUMMARY:

Environmental, Social Governance is a course that is focused on introducing and creating new approaches to ESG, both for organizations and individuals, to become more attractive for potential investors and make conscious evaluations on deciding where and when to invest, respectively. Through this fully asynchronous course learners are provided with foundations in the development and management of ESG indicators and Sustainability strategies.

At the end of the course, learners should leave with the tools necessary to develop inspiring initiatives and successfully promote them into their organizations, and the ability to identify the right alternatives of investment and practice they would be willing to follow.

This course is designed to provide individuals with a foundational background and understanding of ESG and to spark interest in one of the biggest movements towards a balance between People, Planet, Prosperity, Purpose, and Partnership.

Note: Graduates are eligible to write the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Professional (ESGP™) exam as part of the Foundation Technologies Institute’s credentialing process.

WHY THIS COURSE?

It’s not an exaggeration to say ESG is driving a complete reframe of how we conceptualize value. When we step away from the premise that success is based largely on financial measures, everything is upended.

ESG is a new way to think. Financial value and ethical values are now coming together in unprecedented ways; success is no longer simply about financials, disclosures, climate change or diversity. It’s about aligning and embedding all of these principles, and more, into your strategy, capital allocation, and operations to know you’re prepared for the world of tomorrow. ESG will drive the next wave of transformation We’re in the throes of major global shifts, including technological disruption, climate change, fractured geopolitics, social tension and the continuing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we’ve already seen some of the polarized effects of these shifts, ESG will only amplify the differences between organizations ready to move into the future and those holding on to the past.

There’s never been a more important time to build trust to connect your organization, your people, your customers, your stakeholders and the world. But to sustain outcomes and continue making a difference, organizations will need to make sure they’re aligning value with values. And it is big business. The United Nations estimates that the annual global spending by governments and the private sector needed to deliver the world’s ESG-related goals is around $5 trillion a year, or more than 6% of world GDP.

With this acknowledgment comes a shift in responsibility for sustainability, which sees it moving from a side-of-desk task (mostly for the marketing and communications team) to a strategically critical function. Because many companies are looking to tackle these challenges, they often find themselves faced with an unexpected gap –the lack of ESG-educated people.
